WHO WE ARE
BnBscape is an online directory that advertises eco-friendly or “green” Bed and Breakfasts and Country Inns throughout The USA and Canada. Being innkeepers ourselves we believe that bed and breakfasts are ideally suited for ecotourism or sustainable tourism to further the development of an 'earth-friendly' way of life.

WHAT WE DO
Ecotourism, or ecological tourism, is an environmental and social endeavor defined by The International Ecotourism Society as: "…responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people". Ecotourism focuses on local cultures, wilderness adventures and communicating earth-friendly ways to live in balance and harmony with our vulnerable natural environment.

WHY WE DO IT
Bed and Breakfasts and Country Inns have a unique opportunity to contribute positively to the promotion of natural attractions and local historical heritage without causing the harmful environmental effects of conventional/massive tourism. Usually singularly owned and operated, Bed and Breakfasts exemplify a low scale hospitality activity, through which folks are introduced to the natural beauty, the culture heritage, and the history of the area that adds meaning and value to our lives.

HOW WE DO IT
BnBscape is committed to the Promotion and Marketing of the hospitality business with concern for the environment. We are not in the certification business. The Inns participating in our directory have volunteered their information and we make no claims about their accuracy or integrity.

However, we do require that each participant fulfill at least a minimum of three eco-friendly practices (listed below). We consider that eco-friendly practices can be easily adapted to the daily routine of Inns and B&Bs. Please check the pages: eco-practices - eco tips - rrr tips

For those that have voluntarily certified their Inn “green” and feel that your operation deserves a special listing, please review our Certified Green Inns page. Or choose one of the numerous websites that make certification their specialty.

WHAT IS ECOTOURISM?
According to the Quebec Declaration on Ecotourism, ecotourism "embraces the principles of sustainable tourism... and the following principles which distinguish it from the wider concept of sustainable tourism:
Contributes actively to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage,
Includes local and indigenous communities in its planning, development and operation, contributing to their well-being,
Interprets the natural and cultural heritage of the destination to visitor,
Lends itself better to independent travellers, as well as to organized tours for small size groups".
